We're back!
How time flies... our second newsletter is already here! It may
seem that nothing is happening at all in 'Ricky Land', but when
you start putting it together, you see many things have been going
on.
As you probably have noticed, we have had a bit of trouble with
the TSARM message forum. EZboard (our message forum provider) was
hacked, and this affected over 9000 forums worldwide. Ours was one
of them, and unfortunately we lost all of our posts. In the past
weeks we've been trying to work this out - we put up temporary sections,
so you could continue to keep in touch with each other. Now, all
forum sections are showing again, and we are in the process of putting
back anything that we had saved. Unfortunately, we did not have
a back up of everything... So, if you happen to have saved anything
that you think we can use, feel free to post it or drop us a line!
It's also time to start talking about the brand new Ricky/ TSARM
calendar for next year! Scroll down to read all about it, and be
sure to place your pre-order soon! If you have any personal photos
which you think we can use, please don't hesitate to send us a message...
we are definitely looking for any 'new' pictures made by fans, because
that is what makes this calendar so special!

Single & Album News
After a long period of waiting, it's here... Ricky's
new music!
The first single of his long anticipated album is named "I
Don't Care", and will also have a Spanish version, titled "Que
Mas Da." We can also expect a 'Spanglish' remix. Ricky’s
team is planning to film the video in the summer, but the location
is yet to be determined. He worked with Scott Storch (known for hits like Usher's "Yeah")
and Sean Garret, and last week the was song was hitting select clubs
around the USA, to see how the audience reacts.
To everybody's surprise, KIIS FM started playing the song on June 27th in their morning show, and all madness broke loose. Within hours, fans all over the world were calling, emailing and text messaging eachother to tell the news, and everybody was glued to their radio. The number of visitors on the messages forums jumped up, and around 2 pm EST Bluedun (Lucile) from RMTEE had recorded the song from Internet radio. It was quickly put up on several message forums for all fans to share with eachother. So, of course we have it for you too!

As for the album, no title has been selected yet, and a release
will probably come around September/October. Ricky has been
working with several people for this new cd, like will.i.am
from the Black Eyed Peas, Fat Joe, Voltio and Luny Tunes. Rumors
hinted that it will contain a lot of reggaetón, but Ricky
denied that when a reporter asked him about this recently. "No,
no, it's not reggaetón. I love reggaetón but with
all do respect, it's just a collaboration with a lot of great
people and there's an influence for the music", he explained. |

"Love
Thy Neighbor" - Ricky Buys New Houses
In addition to his CNN interviews, C&A advertisement campaign,
and preparation for the release of his latestalbum, and the single
“I Don’t Care”, Ricky Martin has been busy buying
more real estate.
Having recently sold the Florida
home to which he added a recording studio, Ricky decided to stay
in the same neighborhood and purchased another home nearby. He also
purchased an Acapulco penthouse condominium in a building occupied
by celebrities, and located a hop, skip and a salsa away from one
of Luis Miguel’s homes.
With these two new real estate purchases, Ricky now own houses and
condominiums in Puerto Rico, Florida, California, New York and Acapulco.
The question is, where will our Nomad buy a home next? So stay vigilant,
readers! And remember, if a neighbor knocks on your door to borrow
some sugar (or Adobo seasoning), you might want to reconsider answering
the door in your bathrobe and fuzzy slippers. You never know who
that neighbor might be.

Building
Homes With Habitat for Humanity
Part of the mission of People for Children is providing
security for children throughout the world. The perfect opportunity
to put this goal into action occurred on April 24, when Ricky Martin,
representing the Ricky Martin Foundation, came to the aid of children
affected by the tsunami tragedy by partnering with Habitat for Humanity
International to build and restore an initial 224 homes as part
of a more extensive project in the Phang Nga province of Thailand,
an area hardest hit by the December 26 tsunami.
Ricky
Martin Foundation's donation, teamed with that of ENDI (parent
company of El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rican newspaper) will
help more than 1000 people move out of temporary shelters
& overcrowded camps; the RMF project is part of a larger
Habitat program estimated at $2.8 billion.

According to Paul Leonard, CEO of
the global non-profit organization, “Ricky Martin’s
gift mirrors our mission – to demonstrate love through action.”
“It would be too easy for these children, given the chaos
and dislocation, to be further victimized by those who exploit them,”
said Martin. “A home gives them a place to be: safety in numbers,
shelter from the storms – potential and real.”
On land donated by the Governor of
Thailand, work began in April, with an expected completion date
of 2007. The first homes will be completed in July of this year,
when Ricky will be traveling to Thailand to present house keys to
the new owners.

Solidarity
In Action For Children
Does
this man ever quit??? First it’s SER in Puerto Rico,
then Centros Sor Isolina Ferre, and then he’s rescuing
children from the streets and supporting the Sabera Foundation
of India, tsunami relief in Thailand, and now all of the youth
of PR!
In May, the newspaper El Nuevo Día and the Ricky Martin
Foundation joined forces for the good of the children of Puerto
Rico by inviting business leaders to participate in a new
social agenda based on the hope of improving education on
Ricky’s beloved island. Thousands of Puerto Rican business
persons attended the breakfast where Ricky exhorted his business
colleagues to be part of a project of solidarity & hope.

Martin said. “we are very proud of our roots, of our beaches,

… well, we are the most happy country in then world (according
to a study in Holland) because we are always making a party, because
we take on our problems with a smile, we make music over any controversy…
But you have to internalize everything and take it to another stage
with the same pride in social commitments…”
Ricky emphasized that education is essential
in order to have a good society. In terms of education Ricky expressed
his concern for the 40% dropout rate in PR. To reduce this number,
he will use his Foundation to encourage concrete actions in the
areas of reading, sports and the arts, as well as in the creation
of specialized schools and digital libraries.

In the area of special education,
he plans the construction and maintenance of Therapy Centers.
Finally, Ricky will give assistance to foster homes and promote
publicity campaigns against the mistreatment of children. |
Is it any wonder we haven’t
seen much of Ricky on the music scene? But that’s part of
why we love him so much .. artist and humanitarian --- an unbeatable
combination called Ricky Martin!

El
Vocero ESCENARIO Special
The Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero visited with Ricky in Sao Paulo,
Brazil on the set of his latest C&A promotion, which included
shooting commercials for Mother’s Day and Valentine’s
Day. (A link to the full interview is available in Spanish along
with English translation provided by Acoolprican and Adinda - see
below.)
Introduced by Yolanda Rosaly, Ricky
discussed how he is enjoying the best moments at this stage of his
life. This new venture promotiong C&A, Brazil's largest department
store chain, could be the start of many endorsements that will find
Ricky Martin lending his name to commercial brands as many other
well known artists have done.

I Am, I Don’t
Care, and Life are a few of the song titles mentioned
on the forthcoming English cd. I Don’t Care has now been
chosen as the first single to be released in late August or
early September.

Ricky talks of wanting to make movies in Puerto Rico, written by
Puerto Ricans, filmed by Puerto Ricans, in Puerto Rico with Puerto
Rican stars and cast. He wants to see the rebirth of the local movie
industry and have a hand in some productions.
He also spoke
of the death of Pope John Paul and his brief meeting with
him years ago which he will never forget.
Ricky, as diplomatically as ever, ended the article by saying
that he would probably never just live in one city, but have
several homes in his favorite cities. He has been a nomad
for most of his life and doesn't know any other way. Of course
he will always consider Puerto Rico number one for family
and his base for both heart and soul.

CNN,
A Call To Action And International Heroes
Ricky made an appearance on CNN and
CNN En Español and was interviewed about his work on behalf
of his foundation, People For Children. . He was asked how it felt
to appear on a different type of stage and talk on behalf of his
causes and how this differs from when he is singing. He replied
that it’s not different at all because it comes from his heart!
| He then went on to talk about
how important it is to continue the work he started in Thailand
- to finish building the homes that he promised on his first
visit after the Tsunami. He spoke of the devastation and the
effect it had on him and that it is still hard for him to process
all the feelings that he encountered on his visit so shortly
after the wave. His main concern now is to protect the children
who lost so much by giving them shelter, food, and of course,
a place to keep them off the streets and away from traffickers. |

The next day Ricky participated
in the CNN World Report Panel held in Atlanta. President Jimmy Carter
and singer Bono joined the panel by satellite, while Carol Bellamy
of UNICEF and Dr. Sylvia Earle, former Chief Scientist for NOAA
joined in person.
Ricky spoke of his work to stop Child Trafficking and how his project
in Thailand was progressing with the partnership of the Habitat
for Humanity organization. He also said,
"Maybe I will inspire people
to also do it", Ricky says
about his charity work. |
"I encourage
all of the media to take on these issues with me and declare
them to the world as news because your power and strength, similar
to mine, lies in your visibility"
Ricky was honored in Washington, DC by the State Department
for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of victims of child trafficking
and pornography. He became one of a prestigious list of advocates,
experts, and World Leaders who were named as International Heroes
in the Trafficking in Persons Report which is published annually.

His work with UNICEF after the devastating
tsunami brought him kudos for using his celebrity status to better
the lives of others. This commitment to his mission gives his fans
another reason to be so proud of him.

Gotcha!
Caught On Camera
Everywhere he goes,
the cameras seem to follow. Recently Ricky was spotted at LAX
returning to Los Angeles, where he has recently made his home.
Can’t keep him pinned down! That same day, Ricky was seen
out and about the streets of Los Angeles. We don’t know
where he was or where he was going, but he seemed to be in good
spirits when the cameras caught up with him. |

A couple of weeks
later on June 6th, cameras caught up with Ricky again, this
time as he was alone, relaxing, and reading a book outside at a Starbucks
on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. Looks like he finally had some
down time and it’s great to see him be a regular guy –
although he’s been in the business long enough to sense
when there are cameras around. Judging by his expressions, he’d
rather be left alone (or at least know where the cameras actually
are!) |
| June 7th, 2005 -
Escándalo TV caught up with Ricky on a recent hop over
to Miami. Acting on a tip, Ricky was seen leaving a restaurant
with Jose and two other friends as the cameras waited for him.
A surprised Ricky stopped to chat for a few minutes to the reporter,
debunking rumors that the new album will be in “reggaeton”
style. Ricky also mentioned that he was visiting friends and
that Miami is still his second home. Saying he watches Escándalo,
he blew a big kiss to Chary (one of the hosts ) before going on his way. |

Poder Da Ricky" In Brazil
| Continuing with
the massive ad campaign with C&A in Brazil, Ricky was busy
with photo shoots and making several commercials. As well as
appearing on shopping bags and life-size cardboard cutouts in
C&A stores across Brazil, C&A also released their newest
edition of “Moda Mix” magazine, featuring Ricky
on the cover with several pages of photos inside, a stats table,
quotes from other celebrities on their opinion of Ricky, as
well as an interview where he discussed his ideal women, relationships,
family, career and the newest adventure on his list, the ad
campaign in Brazil |

C&A also updated their website almost weekly to reflect sale
items and flyers featuring Ricky.

In addition to in-store
and catalog sales campaigns, Ricky filmed promotional commercial
spots for C&A Brazil (which hired the advertising agency Avanti
Propaganda.) Márcio Delgado, who envisioned the campaign
and created it, came up with the slogan “C&A - o poder
da moda” (“C&A – the power of fashion”)
which conceptualizes Brazilian women as very special. For that reason, Ricky is seen flirting with the 40 female models surrounding
him. Starting on March 11th 2005, the commercials, directed by
Gisele Barroco and featuring the music of Dr. DD Raw, began airing
on Brazilian television.
A few weeks later,
Ricky returned to Brazil to film two additional commercials and
do photo shoots: one for Mother’s Day and one for Valentine’s
Day.

Ricky
Martin/TSARM Calendar 2006
If you have been at TSARM for a while, you already know that each year we bring out a very special, limited edition Ricky calendar. What's so special about it? Well, for starters, almost all of the pictures on it are provided and taken by fans. No posing, but a candid Ricky, the way we see him live, or when we meet him somewhere. Every year we try to create a calendar with that extra touch, with special graphics for each and every month. The NY professional photographer, Bolivar Arellano has once again allowed us to use his exclusive images for this year's calendar. Plus. you can even let us add your birthday to it!
ALL of the profits from this charity project, after mailing and printing costs, go to the Sister Isolina Ferre Centros in Puerto Rico, as it has each year. The money will be used for the children there, whether it's for new uniforms or organized fun activities. The nuns at the organization appreciate our work for them, and even refer to us as their "Ricky Angels." In the past years we have donated over $6700! So not only do you receive a gorgeous calendar, you also help the children from Ricky's island!
Information about pricing, pre-ordering dates and more will come soon, just keep an eye on the Message Forum. Meanwhile, we are still looking for pictures to use for the calendar. Did you ever take some photos of Ricky, or know some friends who got him to pose for that one awesome pic? Let us know! The
Magazine Stand
Just before the message
forums crashed, we added a new link to our sidebar on TSARM courtesy
of our friend Eliz from New Zealand. "The Magazine Stand"
was something she created for another RM website and has let TSARM
adopt her work and share it with our members. We want to thank Eliz
for her thoughtfulness. We will be working to update it and add
more covers of Ricky in the News.

La Vida - Gone But Not Forgotten
Patty (Lolalolaay) was a beautiful and inspired Ricky Martin fan, active on many Ricky fansites and one of the moderators at the TSARM message forum. In spite of her health problems she never stopped being a warm, caring, sharing and vibrant person and fan.
Through her several bouts in and out of the hospital these past
two years, what kept her going were the many fans she had met through
Ricky and the interaction with all her friends, literally around
the world, from Europe, US, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, and Australia
too.
She was so happy that she was able to see Ricky at Madison Square
Garden in 2003. She barely made it home because breathing problems forced her to leave early and miss a rendezvous with a few other fans; but that short concert kept her going for months! When she was down, she was always looking ahead to brighter times and the promise of a long awaited tour! A copy of the latest photos from Brazil made it to her hospital bed in the last month of her life, and even then she was planning to kick this thing and get back to business.
We all have lasting memories of our dear Patty, and how she brightened our days by sharing so many of her banners, her magazine and photo collections with us.
Life goes on and death is one of the hardest things to accept. Thanks to all of her friends at TSARM and so many other message boards for taking the time to send cards, letters, emails, phone calls, flowers and prayers. She appreciated every one of them and Carmella and Amy know first hand how much they meant to her in her last days.
We have a wonderful online community, and it's a reflection of the many and varied members we have. Patty, we will miss you...but your friendship will not be forgotten. |
