"Godfather" Of Quien Magazine

The Spanish magazine Quien celebrated its 100th issue in October and chose Ricky to be 'godfather' of this very special issue. "I stopped feeling, I was like dead," read the cover text, and in the article Ricky explained why he needed to take a break from the spotlight before he could return again with his new music.

As he said, "One day I came home and I said to myself 'I don't have an itinerary now, I have nothing to do. From now on, I'm going to do things because I want to do them, and not because I have to.'" The photos with the article showed a relaxed Ricky having fun as he posed for the camera. There was even a moment captured when he went fully clothed into a pool - from a perfect handstand to letting himself tumble into the water.

European Promotion

After an extensive promotional tour in the USA at radio stations in September, Ricky headed to Europe to promote his new album and single. After promotion at several radio stations, he recorded a commercial for the upcoming NRJ Music Awards. You can still vote for these until January 12th, so be sure to do so! After France early in October, he took off to Spain for a signing and did another popular TV show, Operacion Triunfo. He was one of the two guests at the show and performed near the end of the evening, starting off with a short interview. Some footage was being shown of Ricky in the house with the contestants of the show, and then later his live performance of "Que Mas Da" in the studio.

His next stop in Holland proved to be another crazy day full of promotion - for him as well as for the fans, whom some even had come from abroad to see him in the evening! After doing some interviews for entertainment shows, he went to Q-Music and Radio538, where he arrived just in time for a short interview before the show ended. Hardly any time to rest for him after that, since as soon as he got outside of the radio station, there were cameras that jumped on him, eager for a few good shots to be used in shows on television that evening. Ricky answered a couple of questions but then got into his car to go to the studios of EyeWorks, where the semi-live show Pulse was recorded.

His performance of I Don't Care was recorded twice due to some slight audio problems (to great delight of the fans!) The interview after proved itself to be one of the most entertaining and interesting ones he had done to date; host Peter Van Der Vorst was very well informed and surprised Ricky when he told him that he knew he practiced Capoeira... and if he perhaps wanted to demonstrate this?
Slightly taken aback at first, Ricky did agree and gave the fans a spectacular sight when he showed some impressive Capoeira moves.

After the taping the show that evening, he right away headed back to Amsterdam where he held the very first in-store signing session for the release of his album "Life" - the Dutch fans were more than happy to have the honor of being in the first country where he did a signing for this CD. Only 150 people were permitted entry (with special wristbands) to get their album signed by Ricky.

The atmosphere was excited, as it had been quite a while since he had last been in Holland for promotion. He also received a golden record that evening, and took his time to say a few things in front of the many cameras that were all waiting to catch a glimpse of him or ask him some questions.

At the end of October, Ricky again headed for France. He was at the NRJ Awards and also joined the contestants at Star Academy for a live performance of his smash hit "Maria (Un Dos Tres)". Needless to say the stars, as well as the audience, were thrilled to have Ricky on the show! The host asked him at the end of the performance how exactly he said "WEPA!", and he had no trouble demonstrating it one more time!

Ocean Drive En Español

”Ocean Drive En Español” featured a large special about Ricky and we all know from experience that such an article usually means a new photo shoot as well. We were not disappointed; a new series of images, showing Ricky in a bit of a darker mood, accompanied the interview, which took place at the Hyatt Hotel in South Beach in Miami. Ricky talked about the new style of music of his album and explained why he had chosen for this: "I know that we had success and I am not complaining, but I want to make music in a different way.

As with many celebrities, Ricky is occasionally followed by the paparazzi, but he doesn't make a big deal about it, realizing that it's something that will always be there. He told Ocean Drive, "I have in my mind something my mother told me; 'My son, in this life you can do everything, you just have to know how to do it. Don't make so many decisions, don’t be in a hurry, analyze and then do it without troubles.' Then one has to know how and when. If you want to go to the movies, don't go on a Friday night when the world is there; go on a Monday or Tuesday in the afternoon. I know that my career never was a sacrifice, but at least I learned to see it in this way."

The Early Show

After extensive promotion in Europe, Ricky headed back to America to promote Life. On 11th November, the CBS Early Show edition that had been taped in October finally aired and we saw an interview with Julie Chen, who went through the whole album song by song, and seemed genuinely excited about the new music.

Ricky performed ‘I Don’t Care,’ ‘The Cup of Life’ and ‘It’s Alright’ during the show, and had the audience mesmerized- live and TV viewers alike! Our TSARM members couldn’t help but point out that he looked so happy performing on stage; and that waking up early just to catch a glimpse of the man was worthwhile - Rock on Ricky!

En Español In The USA

While attending several shows in the US to promote his new music, Ricky stopped by the Spanish language morning show "Despierta America,” and performed ‘Dejate Llevar,’ the Spanish version of ‘It's Alright’ together with his regular band. The hosts of the show were absolutely thrilled to have him there again, and so were the fans!

Another Spanish show Ricky visited was "Don Francisco Presenta," a program that always proves itself to be interesting because of its quality. Once again, Ricky talked about the need he felt to get out of the spotlight for a moment, but said he did miss the audience during that time, telling Don Francisco, "This is addictive!" Apart from the interview, he performed ‘Que Mas Da,’ putting on a terrific show with ‘Drop It On Me,’ as the audience went wild when he danced with Debi Nova, who does the female vocals of the song.

The Oprah Show

Since the tsunami interview Ricky did with Oprah back in January, he seemed to be on the show on a regular basis. Ricky went on the show again in September (aired on 10th October) to perform ‘I Don’t Care’ with a rare appearance by Amerie. It was a pity Ricky was aired for less than 15 minutes, which left no time for ‘The Cup of Life’ at this time, which was performed during taping. Fans were disappointed about the absence of a longer interview (just quick chitchat) but were compensated with the cute expression on Ricky’s face when Oprah asked him to show the audience his new move! The segment with the performance of TCOL aired on a repeat show on December 16th with the same small chitchat bits shown.

At the same taping in September, Ricky was present during Oprah’s one-hour special on child trafficking, which aired on November 2nd. While Ricky didn’t get a lot of “face time” in (as Oprah had other guests who had actually been through experiences and were telling their stories) they did air footage from Ricky’s return trip to Thailand, in which he gave out the first houses that his Foundation helped build with Habitat for Humanity.

The woman, who had lost her only child in the tsunami, was very grateful for the furnished home Ricky presented her with and was at a loss for words, only crying, as he told her it was all going to be okay now.

TRL: Totally Ricky Live!

It was quite a while ago when Ricky made an appearance on Total Request Live in New York when certain words got “beeped” and shocked the American audiences to their toes! On 12th October, Ricky didn’t fail to surprise the audiences- this time with capoeira! Everyone was amazed by the refreshing dance from usual choreographed moves. Ricky also told us while at TRL that the tour in the US would start in January 2006. The true Rickymania is about to start again!

The Letterman Show

Two days after the release of “Life,” Ricky appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman to perform the first single, ‘I Don’t Care,’ with Amerie by his side. He wore faded and tattered blue jeans with a gray shirt and a black blazer while performing live for the in-studio audience. Amerie appeared on stage near the end of the song to perform her verse and danced with Ricky until the end, which had Fat Joe’s part edited out and extra chorus added in for filler. The only disappointment of this appearance was the lack of any kind of interview.

LIVE! With Regis, Kelly & Ricky

On October 20th Ricky appeared on the popular LIVE! With Regis and Kelly, performing first a live version of ‘I Don’t Care’ with Amerie, wearing a white shirt with a silver holographic tree and jeans. After the performance, a short interview followed in which Regis first reminded Ricky that he’d first been on the show years ago when he was in Menudo.

They talked about the album and how the creative process worked with putting it all together and where the sounds came from. Next on the agenda was discussing real estate, “big boy toys” (where Ricky shyly admitted to owning 7 or 8 cars: “I love cars,” he grinned before admitting that he never has time to drive them because he’s always traveling and then followed with “I love my Ferrari. That’s my car,”) as well as his dogs (the count is up to seven now!).

Regis then surprised Ricky by asking him to perform another song and while looking at the list in Regis’ hand, suggested ‘The Cup of Life.’ It was a new arrangement of the song and was received enthusiastically by fans who watched the program, knowing what might be in store for the upcoming tour.

Caras Magazine

With the media releasing more and more of their time on Ricky, Caras also dedicated a special to him, along with a diverse series of photos. Arriving relaxed to the studios for the shoot, he took the music he was listening to along with him (Don Omar) and could barely contain himself from dancing to it as he was getting ready.

The interview touched not only on the subject of his new music, but also his charity work that he has been very busy with.

When asked how he finds the logic of the negativity that exists in line with the trafficking he fights so hard against, he answered "There are things that have no answer, but in the same manner I tell you that there exists both good and bad. One has to do whatever possible to give not to give more credit to the negative forces and to feed the positive things, that leave something good in being: channel these energies to be active and make changes."

Also he admitted that the one major competition he has is himself. "For a long time I was very self critical and I spent a lot of time in this criticism that there was no space to better myself. This has been one of those codes that I have dismantled in this time of silence when I spent more time with my family, in my house, with my friends. I have a lot of defects that make me a man and I always give myself room to better myself personally and professionally because there is always space to be a better son, better brother, better friend."

"Bailando En Otro Rollo"

No promo tour in Latin America is complete until Ricky pays a visit to Adal Ramones' show "Otro Rollo" in Mexico, so of course he stopped by there as well. Basically the entire show was dedicated to him, showing he and Adal joking around as usual in the interview. He was asked to paint a t-shirt, which would be auctioned off for charity, so he made an angel in blue, red and yellow colors. The songs he performed were 'Que Mas Da' and 'Stop Time Tonight,' which was the first time that he sang this song for an audience.

Aside from Otro Rollo, he also joined Adal on the show titled "Bailando Por un Sueño" (Dance For a Dream). Adal did his best and tried to dance along on-stage to 'Que Mas Da’ that gave the audience a good laugh for sure! There were more emotional moments as well, such as when he met the children who were featured on the program: Michel, Alison and Pepe. The entire show was about raising money for charity in order to help children who are affected with serious illnesses.

No Manches

After more than six weeks of waiting, Ricky’s long awaited appearance on the Mexican program, No Manches, finally aired in the US. It was a fun show from the start and Ricky playfully went along with all the fun the two co-hosts had planned for him.

The musical set list was 4 songs and although he did some lip sync, we had the first performance of the ballad ‘Stop Time Tonight” which was a hit and we are all hoping to see more of this song written by Diane Warren. He opened the show with ‘Que Mas Da,’ did ‘Dejate Llevar’ during the program and closed with ‘Drop It On Me.’

The interview sequence with Ricky was laced with fun moments as they displayed various photos of Ricky from Menudo as the host pretended to have been with Ricky every stop of the way but was ‘sad’ Ricky seemed to have forgotten him”.

Freak Your Freak @ Ellen!

Freak your freak! Normally shot in Burbank studios in Hollywood, the West Coast fans searched high and low for tickets to the Ellen DeGeneres show but unfortunately came up empty.  The studio looked to be FULL of Ricky’s Fans! He sang ‘Drop It On Me’ in one of its first performances before taking it on tour. He wore jeans and a black shirt, and then added a gray jacket for his talk with Ellen.

After watching this performance of Drop it On Me, you can see they were still rehearsing this one.  He and Debi were on opposite sides of the stage in these early performances of the single. During the interview Ricky talked of his travels through the Himalayas and how a small vendor on the border of Tibet was playing ‘Cup of Life’ (Ricky heard “Go go go, ale ale ale” in the back of the store when he walked up) while he went to purchase water and the store clerk even recognized Ricky with a beard and shaved head.  To close his appearance, Ricky awarded a basket of LIFE goodies to the ‘best fan’, Kathy Hernandez, who was in the audience….anyone knowing who she is or how she was chosen….we would love details!  Lucky gal, and great performance.

An Intimate Evening & Today Show

On November 8th, Ricky performed at the "An Intimate Evening With KTU" concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.  Along with Ricky, Frankie J and Jon Secada gave wonderful performances to a very appreciative crowd, but it was Ricky's appearance on the stage that brought the most thunderous applause. Ricky sang:

I Don't Care
Maria
It's Alright
Livin’ La Vida Loca (reggeaton version)
Cup of Life
Drop It On Me

The following morning, Ricky appeared on the Today Show outside on Rockefeller Plaza to perform 3 songs (‘Drop It On Me,’ ‘Maria’ and ‘I Don’t Care’).  Even though the weather was chilly, the fans warmed up fast when Ricky took to the stage.  A problem with the microphone during ‘Maria’ didn't faze him at all.  Being the professional he is, Ricky traded microphones and never missed a beat!  His performance was first rate as always and we know he felt the love of his many devoted fans.

Immediately after the Today Show, Ricky gave quite a lengthy interview for Telemundo.  At the end, the beautiful young woman who was interviewing him opened her jacket ... and was wearing a t-shirt that read, "Ricky, will you marry me?" After they all had a good giggle, Ricky was whisked away in his waiting SUV.

Una Noche Con Ricky Martin

Ricky started his tour in Latin America on November 15th, performing 11 concerts in 10 countries, thus visiting many countries where he had not done a live concert since before the Livin’ La Vida Loca World Tour. It was a ‘tour de force’ and in each country he visited he was met with ecstatic fans, old and new, that gave the media new LIFE and talk of his maturity, stage presence, and just a fun show for all who got to see it.

He started in Mexico with two shows, with the tour lineup for the rest of the Latin America tour as follows:

November
15 Tue -- Mexico City, Mexico -- Auditorio Nacional
17 Thu -- Monterrey, Mexico -- Arena Monterrey
19 Sat -- Caracas, Venezuela -- Caracas Pop Festival
21 Mon -- San Salvador, El Salvador -- Feria Internacional
23 Wed -- Panama City, Panama -- Islas de Atlapa
25 Fri -- Bogota, Colombia -- Palacio de Los Deportes
27 Sun -- Quito, Ecuador -- Agora Casa de La Cultura
29 Tue -- Santiago, Chile -- Estadio Riesgo

December 2005
01 Thu -- Sao Paulo, Brasil -- Credicard Hall
06 Tue -- Buenos Aires, Argentina -- Luna Park
08 Thu -- Punta del Este, Uruguay -- Conrad Hotel

As we have all come to know, Ricky does not disappoint and works himself and everyone into a ‘sweat’. He had several costume changes, showing a variety of styles from suited up with a ‘scarf’ to taking off his shirt during the show. The following rundown was provided by rickyfanmdr who gave us this info from the scene as well as the set list at the first concert in Mexico City…

Till I Get To You
Ricky was wearing low-cut patched jeans, a black long-sleeve fitted knit shirt with Mandarin V- neck collar with leather and embroidered trim around the neckline, a brown belt with silver horizontal ellipse buckle, and a couple of necklaces—one was silver with a six petal floral design pendant in a turquoise color.

Que Mas Da

This Is Good

Bella
Changed into black racer pants with red side stripe, black warm-up jacket with silver (lotus or flower?) design on the back. From this point on, he removed the necklaces and I believe the only jewelry he ever wore were a couple of simple bracelets on his right wrist. No rings, nothing I saw as earrings, and nothing else I remember seeing.

Livin' La Vida Loca (reggeaton version)

I Am
Took off black warm-up jacket to reveal a black skin-tight tank underneath. Ricky did the most amazing capoeira routine, including a handstand!

Corazonado
Added a black ribbed hoodie over the tank.

Jaleo
Ricky added a black sweatband around his head. On the flamenco boxes..

Maria
Took the hoodie off—probably the sweat band too.

Fuego Contra Fuego
Wore a black suit jacket over a white crew top. Black pants.

Si Tu Te Vas
Black pin-stripe pants and vest over white crew-neck top. Black jacket either was not finished yet (lol) or was that style—where it looked pieced and basted together (with a light thread color) with some of the interfacing showing. The jacket had a car-wash vent detail along the bottom in back. He wore black Indian-style thong sandals (with a mostly open design but had a loop over the big toe).

Tal Vez

Lola Lola
Wore a jacket and a grey beret.

Perdido Sin Ti
Took off the grey beret.

El Amor De Mi Vida

Te Extraño, Te Olvido, Te Amo

Dejate Llevar
Low-cut jeans, black long-sleeve shirt with gold plaited embellishment in a wide band down the front center and on the back yoke, black sneakers, and the belt from the beginning—brown with silver horizontal elliptical buckle.

La Bomba
Teaser tummy peek. Opened shirt to top snap and flashed tummy. Took shirt off altogether!

Por Arriba, Por Abajo
Shirt back on. The traditional version!

The Cup Of Life - with confetti (ALL silver metallic)

Vuelve
Jeans and a red T-shirt with lots of little holes in it. BARE FEET!!!!! Duet with Franco De Vita in Caracas, Venezuela.

RMF Joines Forces With Microsoft

In a continued effort to abolish child trafficking, Ricky Martin Foundation and Microsoft Latin America have teamed together to promote online child safety by developing educational activities aimed at Internet safety for the children of Latin America and the Caribbean. The two organizations will invite others to join with them in this effort, as it is a worldwide issue.

Microsoft has long had Internet consumer’s safety at the forefront of their developments as they realize that the useful educational tools they make available to Internet users also have some challenges. Their commitment to online child safety is three-fold: education (by providing practical tips to adults, educators and community leaders;) training (by training law enforcement officers how to properly pursue online criminals;) and technology (software and online tool development to protect children from potentially dangerous content.) Microsoft also actively participates in the investigation of online child abuse and they make it be known that they support tougher legislation for convicted criminals of these acts. Microsoft has no doubt that this partnership will get them one step closer to their goal of offering children a safe Internet environment.

“We are very proud to join efforts towards such a noble campaign that has as a goal to protect children in this online era. We've found Microsoft to be an active partner and we are sure that, together, we'll take great strides to protect our most vulnerable population, children," assured Ricky.

Victoria's Secret Show

What a HOT show Victoria’s Secret put on this year! Not only did they entertain a lot of men with their voluptuous models and fashion, but they asked the hottest man on the planet to 'shake up the runway' with them. We always said we wanted to see Ricky strut his stuff down a runway after the Armani Fashion show last year, and this year we got our wish!

He did a 'caliente' number with about 10 dancers to ‘Drop It On Me’ -- the perfect song for the fashion show, and Debi Nova joined in to do her part and got to be a Victoria's Secret girl herself for the night.  It was cute to see the models waiting back stage all dancing to the music while Ricky was on stage.

Ay Bendito De Mis Raices

Ricky arrived in Puerto Rico in mid-December after finishing the South American leg of his Una Noche Con Ricky Martin tour and started interviewing almost immediately upon landing. Caught exiting his plane in comfortable ‘pseudo jammies’ (he had a belt on!) he told how happy he was to be back in Puerto Rico and was looking forward to enjoying his holidays on the ‘Isla’ with family and friends. Not only enjoying the holidays, but also a new wave of promotions for ‘LIFE” began for his upcoming tour of the US.

EL Nuevo Dia and Primera Hora followed him around, bringing photos, interviews and video files to his fans who were hoping to see a little more of him in his home country.

He told of plans to film his next video “It’s Alright’ in Puerto Rico and planned to use the talent of the Island to start the video. Then he will add post-production scenes in New York and Los Angeles to be released in early 2006. El Nuevo Dia gave us already a taste of what we can expect in the video.

On a more personal promotional note, Ricky also visited several live radio shows giving interviews and thrilling his ‘hometown’ fans. You can read the translations provided by Acoolprican from two of these special exchanges.

Jingle Ball Show

Bringing 2005 to an end with a blast (at least for his fans for sure!), Ricky performed at the annual Y100.7 Jingle Ball concert on December 17th, giving a sizzling show for the enthusiastic audience in Miami.

He started off with 'I Don't Care,' followed by 'It's Alright,' 'Maria,' a reggaeton version of 'Livin La Vida Loca' which drove the crowd wild, and ended with 'The Cup of Life' and 'Drop It On Me.' The media was everywhere so we had no shortage of photos of the performance, but unfortunately no video.

Held at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, this year the awards belonged to Mariah Carey who took away 3 awards for her latest album. But, by far and away the performance of the night was had by Ricky, proving once again the old adage that ‘practice makes perfect’…he and Debi Nova put on the hottest performance yet of ‘Drop It On Me.’

On Access Hollywood coverage of the event, Mark McGrath said it all when he mentioned that Ricky still knows how to bring a crowd to their feet.

St. Barts Caribbean Getaway

Once again it proves difficult for Ricky to escape the media eye -- even on his birthday! Ricky and a close group of family and friends were caught on the beaches of St. Bart’s in the French Caribbean having some ‘fun in the sun,’ playing paddle ball, doing his Capoeira/yoga exercises, and enjoying the sun and sand on a quiet Caribbean shore. Somewhere, the hidden paparazzi with a great lens, took some gorgeous snaps of Ricky enjoying his 34th birthday with younger brother Eric and friends.

He was looking very ‘healthy’ and happy and we wish him all the best in what looks like the start of a great 34th year!
